HAPPY THURSDAY!!!

I am a being of free-will, and I CHOOSE each and every action I make, every thought I think, and every emotion I feel.
~Jonathan-Lockwood Huie

WASSUP FAMILY!!!

Now I know this is LONG OVERDUE. I posted a blog called MY WONDERFUL WEEKEND about 2 weeks ago. This is what happened the SUNDAY of that weekend.

So, what took me so long to make this blog? Well, I'm just fucking lazy sometimes.

Anyway, on that day, I went to Exposition park in Downtown L.A., across the street from USC.

You know, I've been putting off going there for the longest. It's a beautiful place...

However, the reason I went over there is because I heard this guy was performing there:

His name is SEAN HILL, but more on him later.

Anyway, he was there to perform at the California African American Museum's ANNUAL SUMMER PARTY!!!

Sponsored by Target, this event at the California African American Museum was, as sean Would say, an afternoon of AWESOME with singers/artists Terry Dexter, Antonique Smith, Aliyah Moulden, Sean Hill, and Malachi Cohen who came out, did their thing, and brought out a bright ray of sunshine to illuminate the cloudy Sunday we were having.

First, let me give a shoutout to the hosts, KIKI SHEPARD and JEFFREY ANDERSON-GUNTER.

Note: I was sitting in the back row, so the pictures didn't come out as well as I thought they could've...

Anyway, they were wonderful, and they kept the positive energy FLOWING throught this enitire show.

Now, first up was MALACHI COHEN.

Malachi is an 18-year old singer, actor, dancer, and music producer. He was recently nominated by the LA Music Awards as "Best Male Pop Artist." He has performed in a variety of venues and festivals, and has a leading role on Nicktoons' new hit show, "NFL-Rush Zone," playing the lead character, "Ish."

He came up, and rocked the sage!

here's some of the songs he shared with us:

After Malachi finished his performance, next up was ALIYAH MOULDEN.

Charismatic 12 yr. old pop/dance artist Aliyah Moulden already knows that dreams do come true if you're willing to work hard. Her dedication for the past 3 years has resulted in her national debut in a concert featuring Disney stars and the completion of her first EP. This young musical diva's message is that "there is greatness in everyone."

Here's some of the songs this young woman shared with us:

Next up was the beautiful, and VERY talented,ANTONIQUE SMITH

From her website: Imagine a voice that possessed the melodic soul of Adele, the acrobatic notes of Celine Dion and the high-energy of BeyoncĂ© – that would be the pitch-perfect fusion of Antonique, the artist. Heralded as “an amazing actress with a great career ahead of her”, by the legendary Sidney Lumet, Antonique is following the career path of Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand and Diana Ross; pursuing a career in film while also continuing to make her dream of a Grammy-winning recording career into the most amazing of realities.

This is her first single, and it's on iTunes! Check it out and spread the word! ♥ https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/hold-up-wait-a-minute-woo-woo/id727863612?i=727863658

And now, it's time to talk about Mr. Hill.

SEAN HILL is an AMAZING spoken word artist (I'm not sure why he doesn't seem to prefer to say he's a poet). I wrote about him before...

-----CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT WHAT I WROTE------

but this time, since I'm pretty lazy today, I'm gonna let his words speak for themselves. This is his bio from his FACEBOOK PAGE:

Biography
Splashed with chemicals by his Uncle Barry, he then possessed the same super speed powers...oh wait...that's for The Flash...

From a first time professional college audition for a Hip Hop Theater piece called, "Blasting Holes in the Night, ( Playwright - D.J. Anthony Valadez, Director- Doug Kaback), which dealt with almost every political, socio-economic, universal issues of the generation based on the story-telling in Antigone (Sophocles), Sean Hill felt what it was like to be a part of a craft that was beautifully bigger than himself.

In that moment, acting was a means for more than escape or entertainment...it was something that spoke to people from all walks of life in a way that helps people speak honestly to themselves.

That play was constructed alongside a 20 minute open mic guided by the actors in the play. Which is where his love for poetry grew ten fold. Part of the "research" for the open mic portion of the play was to go to an open mic, (Da Poetry Lounge), where Sean and fellow castmates shared a special new experience. Simply put: people were letting out their deepest, most secret and painful, embarrassingly funny, and truthful thoughts...and other people...called an "audience"...were honestly listening and taking it in.

FROM THAT MOMENT ON...HE WAS CAPTAIN PLANET!

Sorry...I like superheroes...I mean...Sean Hill...likes superhereos...

From that moment on, he continued his college education majoring in English: Creative Writing, and Minoring in Theater with a focus on Acting/Directing. He was in the Theater Department so much, that people thought he was actually a Theater Major...some even tried to convert him...he played a pivotal role in "Lost in The Bush" (Playwright - Ali Kiwani), which discussed American slavery more in depth from the African point of view of a Yoruba tribe, in which, there was an actual Yoruba priest (Ayo Ayedemi) supervising the production. It also was one of, if not the first, most diverse productions in CSUN history involving students from the Music, Theater, and Pan African Studies departments.

To speed up this bio...we won't get so detailed now...

He basically realized from those two theater productions that he enjoyed Theater and Acting enough to travel to China on a CSUN Theater/China Institute Scholarship to live in Beijing for approx. 8 months and learn more about theater and Mandarin at the Central Academy of Drama, where he met priceless friends and had the most confrontational reflective experiences.

Upon returning to the States in 2006, he continued acting in theater shows, one act plays, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, Spoken Word variety shows and open mics and even began performing poems at birthdays and weddings, writing personalized poems or doing his own works.

Another life changing work worth mentioning was, "Radio Golf" (Playwright - August Wilson) performed with CSUN alumni and run by the Black Genius Theater Company, and don't worry, they aren't racist, lol, they worked with people of all ethnic backgrounds: simply the pieces they choose to work on are based heavily on African American plays and playwrights. Sean also was glad to work with them in their variety shows and future works as well.

The idea, although not his own, that theater can be used to help us heal ourselves propels Sean Hill's works and silliness. Also, healing self is what poetry has been doing since it's birth. So it makes total crazy sense that his two loves would be his two directions in life...

Most recently, he has hosted the Success is Our Future Graduation Ceremony which celebrated the graduations and achievements of Southern California's probationary youth and the group homes that support them.

He is continuing his second semester at an East Los Angeles High School facilitating a "Poetry Club of Awesome", where he combines the best of poetry exercises and acting exercises to deliver a one of a kind experience to high school folk who wish to dive more into their poetry, acting, self, or all three.

Sean continues to focus on TV and Film, doing some work in commercial, hosting and collaborating with artists of all backgrounds, promoting events that range from fundraisers to open mics, while looking forward to the near future to tour his spoken word poetry with the world...yes...tour it...with...the world.

It's a journey for everyone.

Thank you for your time to read his journey...

and nothing but the best to you on yours~

(Bio will be updated more and more until it's like a Wikipedia page for this guy and his afro...=)

And here he is, rockin this stage with nothing but his witty, very creative use of the spoken word.

He started with this poem...

And then he told us a LOVE poem, then he did a poem from his new book.

He then finished with some lyrics he performs as part of this song called "BREATHE", performed by the band he's in, called THE KI. Now, after Sean's amazing performance, they had a raffle, and I ACTUALLY won something. FUCK YEAH!!!

Sure it was just a copy of Malachi's Album. but FUCK YEAH, I WON IT!!!!

And besides, it's a damn good album!

O.K., enough about me and my puffed-up ego, back to the story...

After the raffle, this amazing afternoon continued on...

Next up was TREASURE DAVIS.

Timing is everything and the time is now for ByStorm Entertainment/RCA Records’ newest discovery Treasure Davis. After years of honing her skills in the background, the multi-talented singer-songwriter is ready to bring her sound to the forefront.

With influences ranging from Marvin Gaye to Cyndi Lauper, Treasure’s distinctive vocals and intoxicating personality are what set her apart. With her seamless blending of fun and quirky personality coupled with those raspy, seductive vocals, Treasure Davis won't be hidden for too much longer.

This is one of the amazing songs that she sung that day.

And last, but certainly not least,

Ladies and Gents, allow me to introduce to you, TERRY DEXTER.

This song is actually from her album, "Listen". If you want to get a copy, contact her at www.http://www.iamterrydexter.com/contact/contact.html

,br> ...And after her AWESOME performance, she was nice enough to take a picture with me...

You know, It's getting easier and easier for me to ask total strangers to take pictures with me.

And Yes, I know, I gotta do something about my mini-fro. I'm starting to look like Don King.

But let me tell you, during one of her songs, a lot of us got up off our seats and started GETTIN' DOWN!!!

I tried to dance too, but I just didn't have any rhythm that day, so I just took some pictures...

now if you notice, in the last 3 of these pictures, You'll see a VERY BEAUTIFUL woman.

She's an actress named MY-ISHIA CASON BROWN.

She wasn't part of the show; she was there because I believe she was a friend of one of the performers (Terry Dexter, I think) and she was showing her support.

Anyway, here she is in a You Tube series about Conscious Living:

And this is her Actor's Reel:

I'm a big fan already.

And NO, the fact that she's drop dead GORGEOUS has nothing to do with why I'm her fan.

Anyway, I wish I had some time to ask her more about her acting, what roles she would like to play, what life in "Hollywood" is like, etc.

But, at least I got to take a picture with her...

Yes, she was the beauty, and I was the BEAST.

Well My-Ishia, it was great meeting you. I hope we meet again someday.

Oh, and I LOVE your Comedic Reel:

Like I just said, I hope I see you again in person one day. Till then, see you in the movies!

Well, after the show, I took a walk around the rose garden before I caught the EXPO LINE to TACO BELL.

I was wishing I was there when it's sunny.

I did take some pictures there when the sun was out about a week later, but that's for another blog...

After a most memorable meal at Taco Bell, I got a picture of this church before I took the SILVER LINE home.

Now, let's end this blog with another song by Terry Dexter, "Dissapointed".

Being impeccable with your word is the correct use of your energy; it means to use your energy in the direction of truth and love for yourself.
