Holiday Stories...

A Very Merry Fox Christmas: Obama’s Christmas Card Just Isn’t American Enough | Addicting Info:

There are days where I long for a Republican president in the White House just so Fox News and the professional Right can shut the f&ck up. Just for ONE second! Please shut up! The nonstop Obama bashing is so tiresome for its lack of consistency, rationality or relevancy.

Case in point: Just over two weeks ago, the White house was overdoing it with the Christmas stuff. Mind you, the entire premise of conservative economics is that conspicuous consumption by the rich will “trickle down” the prosperity to the huddled, unworthy masses. Unless you’re a Democratic president. Then you’re rubbing it in the face of America. A $500k Tiffany bill is OK, though.

Now, however, it seems that President Obama just isn’t invested in American Christmas traditions enough.

From radio.foxnews.coms’ Todd Starnes (emphasis mine):

No Christmas in White House Holiday Card
The official White House holiday card makes no mention of the word ‘Christmas’ and instead focused on Bo the First Dog based on the wishes of the First Family.

“From our family to yours, may your holidays shine with the light of the season,” read the inside of the card, featuring the presidential seal.

The front of the card features Bo the First Dog lounging by a fireplace. Holiday greenery is draped over the fireplace mantle. Holiday presents are placed on a table underneath a poinsettia – instead of a Christmas tree.

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin told Fox News & Commentary that she found the card to be a bit unusual.

“It’s odd,” she said, wondering why the president’s Christmas card highlights his dog instead of traditions like “family, faith and freedom.”

Palin said the majority of Americans can appreciate the more traditional, “American foundational values illustrated and displayed on Christmas cards and on a Christmas tree.”

As for the Obama card, she replied, “It’s just a different way of thinking coming out of the White House.”

So, according to the Right, not showing a Christmas tree or Baby Jesus™ in your holiday painting means that you are not a traditional American and not making an explicit mention of Christmas is “a different way of thinking.”

Ah. I see. Personally, I LOVE Starnes’ use of “holiday greenery” and “holiday presents” as if there were some other mainstream holiday celebrated at this time of the year that uses pine needles and a red/green color palette. In case you’re wondering, Hanukkah is predominantly a blue/gold/silver affair with nary a pine cone to be found. But still, no Christmas tree so the “holiday greenery” doesn’t count

I don’t see a single Christmas tree, Baby Jesus™ or Santa Claus and the words “Merry Christmas” are nowhere to be found. You know what I DO see in each of these classic pieces of Americana? A dog. Apparently Norman Rockwell is a non-American, nontraditional, secret Kenyan Muslim as well.

Because that’s what this is really about. Obama is part of “the other” and all God-fearing conservatives should be afraid of him, even during the one time of year we’re supposed to embrace our fellow human regardless of their background. It doesn’t matter what he does, there is something intrinsically wrong with it because he’s not a real American or Christian and never can be.

And so conservatives continue to degrade all the beliefs they claim to hold dear while exposing for all that care to see the only beliefs they’ve ever had: hate and intolerance.

Merry Christmas, conservatives. Enjoy your spiritual lump of coal. It’s all you deserve.
